Why this downloads a file instead of giving a URL#

Placeholder image services that generate an image on the fly from a URL pattern (like /800x600) require a server to stay online for as long as anything references that URL — a dependency that can silently break a project months later if the service shuts down or changes its API. This tool draws the image once, in the browser, and hands over a real downloadable file with no ongoing dependency on anything staying up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a URL to use directly in an <img> tag while prototyping?

Not from this tool — it produces a downloadable file, not a hosted URL, deliberately avoiding a dependency on an external service staying online. Save the file and reference it locally instead.

What shows if I leave the text field blank?

The image dimensions themselves, like "800 × 600" — a sensible default for a generic placeholder.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The image is drawn and downloaded entirely in your browser.
