What an open graph checker shows you#

Open Graph (og:*) tags tell Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, iMessage and many other clients how to render a link preview. Twitter Card tags (twitter:*) do the same for X. An open graph checker / og preview tool fetches the page HTML, reads those meta tags, and shows approximate cards so you can catch a missing og:image, a relative image URL, or a title that will look wrong when someone pastes the link into WhatsApp or a Slack channel.

SEO checklist for social meta tags#

Required for a useful share card: og:title, og:description, og:image (absolute https URL), and og:url. Add og:type (website or article) and og:site_name when you can. Prefer 1200×630 images so Facebook / LinkedIn crop cleanly.

Twitter / X: set twitter:card to summary_large_image when you have a hero image; optionally set twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image (X falls back to Open Graph if these are absent). WhatsApp and iMessage primarily consume Open Graph — fixing og:* fixes most messaging previews.

Also check: <title> and meta name="description" as HTML fallbacks; link rel="canonical" aligned with og:url. After you change tags, platform debuggers may still show a cached card until you scrape again.

CORS reality (why proxies appear)#

A static site cannot freely fetch() arbitrary HTML from other origins. If the target does not send CORS headers allowing your origin, the browser blocks the response body. This tool’s honest strategy: direct CORS first, then cors.lol, then allorigins. Free proxies rate-limit and may fail; when they do, use Paste HTML (View Source → copy <head>) or run the check from a server-side crawler.

DevSEOCraft does not run its own HTML-fetch backend for this tool on Cloudflare Pages. On the proxy path, the URL is sent to a third-party proxy. We do not log inputs on DevSEOCraft servers.

Does this work as an open graph checker for WhatsApp?

WhatsApp reads Open Graph tags (especially og:title, og:description, og:image). This preview is Facebook- and X-style chrome, but the same og:* values drive WhatsApp’s card. WhatsApp also caches aggressively — after you fix tags you may need to wait or use WhatsApp’s own refresh behaviour.

Is this an open graph checker Chrome extension?

No. DevSEOCraft is a web tool in the browser, not a Chrome extension. Paste any public URL here; you do not need to install anything.

Why did the fetch fail / what are the CORS limitations?

Browsers block cross-origin HTML unless the site allows CORS. We try a direct fetch, then cors.lol, then allorigins. Proxies can rate-limit (HTTP 429), timeout, or refuse some hosts. Private networks, authenticated pages, and bot-blocked sites will fail. Use Paste HTML or a server-side crawler when proxies cannot reach the page.

Is my URL private?

DevSEOCraft does not receive or log the URL on our servers. A direct fetch talks only to the target. A proxy fetch sends the URL to cors.lol or allorigins. Prefer Paste HTML for sensitive staging URLs.

Why does Facebook / X still show an old image?

Platforms cache share cards. After you deploy new og:image tags, use Facebook Sharing Debugger or X Card Validator to force a re-scrape. This tool reads the live HTML you can fetch now; it cannot clear their caches.

How is this different from the Meta Tag Generator or SERP Preview?

Meta Tag Generator builds tags from form fields. SERP Snippet Preview shows Google title/description truncation in pixels. This Open Graph checker fetches a live URL (or pasted HTML) and previews social cards plus a missing-tag checklist. Use them together.
