Generator

Built in your browser, never sent anywhere

Fill in the required fields to generate Article schema.

    How to generate Article schema

    1. 01

      Pick the article type

Article is the general-purpose type; NewsArticle is for news publishers; BlogPosting is for blog content specifically.

    2. 02

      Fill in the required fields

Headline, image, author, publisher and publish date are all required for the schema to be valid.

    3. 03

      Fix anything flagged

Missing fields block generation; the headline length warning does not, but is worth reading.

    4. 04

      Copy the script tag

Paste it into the page whose content it actually describes.

Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting — which one to use#

All three share the same required fields and inherit from the same base Article type in schema.org's hierarchy, so the choice mostly signals intent rather than changing what data is needed. NewsArticle is meant specifically for journalistic content from a news publisher and is what makes a page eligible for certain News-specific surfaces in Google. BlogPosting signals blog content specifically. Plain Article is the safe general-purpose choice when neither of the more specific types clearly applies — using it is never wrong, just less specific.

Why the image and publisher logo need to be absolute URLs#

The same rule that applies to Open Graph images applies here: crawlers and rich-result renderers fetch the image and logo directly, with no page context to resolve a relative path against. /images/cover.png works fine for a normal page load in a browser; it silently fails for anything reading the raw structured data. Both fields need the full https:// URL.

Why the headline length actually matters here#

Google's own guidance recommends keeping a structured-data headline under 110 characters — longer ones risk truncation in the surfaces that read this field, which most Article schema generators do not check for at all. This tool warns at that threshold without blocking generation, since a longer headline is not technically invalid, just at higher risk of being cut off wherever Google actually displays it.

    Frequently asked questions

Should I use Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting?

NewsArticle for journalistic content from a news publisher, BlogPosting for blog content specifically, and plain Article as the safe general-purpose default when neither more specific type clearly applies. All three share the same required fields.

Why does the headline get flagged past 110 characters?

Google's own guidance recommends staying under that length, since longer headlines risk truncation in the surfaces that read this field. It is a warning, not a hard error — the schema still generates.

Why do the image and logo URLs need to be absolute?

Crawlers fetch them directly with no page context to resolve a relative path against, the same reason Open Graph images need an absolute URL. A relative path silently fails.

    Is dateModified required?

No — only datePublished is required. dateModified is optional but recommended whenever the article has genuinely been updated since it was first published.

Is my content sent anywhere to generate the schema?

No. The JSON-LD is assembled entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is transmitted or stored.
